I LOVE the idea of incorporating Spells into the Skill Challenge. Anything to get the Players thinking and using abilities that they might not normally use. Listening to the examples, it gave an air of almost a little too much "DM suggestion" not straight railroading but sort of like the DM guiding the players into creating a scenario that THEY as the DM would like to see versus more of a blank page on which the Players can paint their own scene.

I swear that was a look of pride on Monty's face when Pluto called Commander's Strike for Veo.

They should have mentioned that Katrina Von Kessel was the Queen of Thieves and a rogue mage trying to gain the crown of Drakkenheim which would have triggered the treaty of Lumen to have all other noble houses in three nations at war with her.

Monty's gate cube being basically the Lament Configuration as described in the book is really cool. I love the Hellraiser version but there's something incredible about the black obsidian one that is in the Hellbound Heart that's just awesome.

Poisoner ignores the practical reality of poisoning weapons, which makes it too distracting to immersion for me to ever consider. In reality, the entire length of the edge/edges of a blade must be coated to ensure introduction via wound, because one can never know which part of that blade is what will be breaking skin. An arrow/bolt has exponentially smaller potential application surface, and thus would require exponentially less poison to be applied. It wouldn't even be ten arrows = one broadsword. It would be something closer to the 25-50 range (and it would be illogical to pretend all 25 arrows must be applied at the same time, since they would obviously be dipped into the vial as desired). This is the very reason why, historically, poison application via weapon was almost exclusively limited to missile weapons, or piercing weapons. Application to slashing weapons is radically inefficient.

Paladin's a fair starter class if you have the patience, since it introduces you to both melee combat and spellcasting rules, without leaning too much into the complex spellcasting system. This also makes changing into other classes easier, since you understand the rules for both worlds.

Aren't rangers the highest rated class so far? They have no area of weakness.

i love the flavor of rage that this brings thematically it's not only focused on being a tank and protecting yourself but also protecting others, it also goes good from a point of rage being channeled from wanting to protect like a fight or flight of a parent rather then pure anger channeled from revenge or wanting to just kill the enemy

The closest times that cheating happened were when I first started playing. I was super excited about the game and wanted to know everything, so I bought the entry level books and brought them with me. I was gently ask by the DM to only take out the player’s handbook and not bring any knowledge from the other books to the table. I understood and had a lot of fun learning as I went along. The only other time that something happened was a few months later when another newbie joined the table. He had a bit of dyscalculus and didn’t fully understand the numbers’ mechanics. He got a couple of eyebrow raises when he kept calling out “natural 20s.” He didn’t realize that it was only a natural 20 when the dice landed on a 20. We explained and he felt a bit embarrassed, but we worked with him and he didn’t do it again and was a joy to play with. We both had that giddy energy, so we got on as partners in fun. I’ve sadly been away from actual play for a long time since I moved away. I miss it loads.

Hopefully they remember to also ask the Divine Matriarch for non-detection before they go get Mouse (Eliza VK) and also get it in a ring to cast on Mouse. QoT will be the ever-recurring problem. (Edit for grammar)

Circle of Shepherd Druid and Life Cleric is a WICKED combo for a party’s healer. Played one with the Healer feat, and it was ridiculous how much of the DMs damage I could erase.
